What is Little b Art Studio?

Hello reader!

I am very excited (and nervous) to officially launch my new blog series! In case you are new here, let me take few steps back to introduce myself and my brand.

Hi, my name is Brooklyn (or b for short) and I am an aspiring scientific illustrator and artist! I have been creating art ever since I was able to hold a pencil as a wee child. I have always been drawn to the creative-side of things, which I sadly abandoned for a period of my life. As much as I adored creating art, I was also heavily intrigued by the world of science. Nature is very fascinating to me, and what better way to understand how the natural world works than to study the sciences! During my final year of high school, I dropped all of my creative courses and extracurriculars to strictly focus on my studies, with the goal of medical school at the forefront. After high school, I then went to MacEwan University and graduated with my Bachelors of Science in Chemistry and Molecular Cell Biology! But, at this point I felt truly lost...

The motivation for applying to grad school was low, I no longer knew what I wanted to do post-graduation (I will say, the one thing universities do not do well for graduates is provide guidance/opportunities post-graduation). I applied to several jobs and only ever heard back from one, which happens to be the job I currently have! The transition was scary if I am being honest. I feel like a lot of people in my age/position choose to continue their studies as a way to slow down the realities of growing up; working for the rest of your life till retirement, planning for your future, saving to buy a house, etc. So there I was, thrown into the realities of "adult life" as we call it.

So, how did I end up where I am now? needless to say, I started to pick up my old hobbies once again in my spare time, creating and brainstorming. Because of my scientific background I wanted to think of ways to incorporate science into my work, which was the basis behind my scientific diagrams! I was then introduced to the world of scientific illustration, which I never even knew existed. My whole world changed when I discovered that there are real careers in this dream area of study for me! There were plenty of bad drafts before I perfected the format of my popular scientific diagrams, and everyone loved the idea so much that I began honing in and created my first scientific diagram, the dandelion!

Eventually, after numerous people complimenting me about my artistic skills and ideas, it dawned upon me to maybe try and start selling my work. This was the very first stepping stone of the path I traverse to this day. I started creating more, started an Instagram and began posting all my work. Fast forward to a little over a year of me casually posting my work, I had one reel that went mega viral (+3M views!) which gave me the momentum to quickly put together an online shop and sell my prints!

That was the moment where it felt like I was finally doing something right, I no longer doubted myself because it was a sign that there are people out there who actually enjoy my art! So, here we are now. This is Little b Art Studio, where science and art can blend with each other, educating all while feeling aesthetic at the same time.

You might be wonder now what and where I plan to go from here, and I am so glad you asked! My goal for this brand is to continue exploring the natural world in whatever format feels best to me. I know they say the best business practice is to hone in on your "niche", but I am too stubborn and get bored of doing the same thing over and over again; hence why I am trying to expand my brand to more kinds of work outside of my famous scientific diagrams. That does not mean I will stop creating diagrams, it just means that I am trying to balance what's popular and being able to experiment on the side. So, on that note, I am excited to show you all the fun projects I have been working on slowly on the side! I have highlighted a few on my Instagram, but there is even more going on behind-the-scenes. Subscribing to my mailing list is the best way to stay in the loop about my work and proper shop updates (with the occasional discount code too)!

Thank you so much for giving a few minutes of your busy day to read my silly little blog post. stay tuned to read my next blog post which will be about my artistic inspiration and a bit of a behind-the-scenes of my creative process. Be sure to check out my socials and subscribe to my mailing list for monthly updates!

Cheers!

~b
